Jack Alexander Smith was born in 1916 and was one of two children born to Albert Smith
and his wife Doris. They married in 1914 in Wickham NSW. Albert was born in 1890 in
Wigan, Lancashire, England.
Their first child Vivienne Geraldine Smith was born around 1915. The family at this time was living at 68 Clearly Street, Hamilton NSW. The property still survives today and is pictured above. The contempory map below shows the location of the street.

Sadly private Albert Smith was killed in action during the Great War in Belgium.

1917 - 1930 Smith Family Stanmore NSW


Following her husband's death Doris and the two children moved to Gowie,
64 Salisbury Road Stanmore NSW. The property is shown present day above
at the junction with Myrtle Street.
In 1930 the family moved to 7 Douglas Street Petersham NSW where they lived
until around 1936 when they moved to 44 Lancaster Road Rose Bay.

1938 Marriage Vivienne Geraldine Smith
Vivienne Smith married Henry Robert Bassett 19th November 1938.

The following year her brother Jack Alexander Smith married Betty Langman
in Ashfield NSW.

1942 - 1945 Jack Alexander Smith War Service



Above is Jack's service details during World War 2. He first served with the
Australian Army from 29th January 1942 to 4th November 1943 when he transferred
to the RAAF until his discharge 30th July 1945.
During this period Jack and Betty's son John Alexander Thomas Smith was Born.

During the war this Electoral Register from 1943 shows Betty living with her parents. Her
husband Jack is listed separately at 50 Lancaster road Rose Bay. His mother is now living
at 54 Dover Road Rose Bay.

After the war Betty and Jack moved into 54 Dover Road with Doris.
