...........Charlotte Matilda Harris 1830 - 1876

We can find no baptism records for William and Betsy Daughter Charlotte Matilda Harris. She is listed with other members of the family on the 1841 census at Artichoke Court Granby

Place Lambeth although her age is incorrectly shown and she is now known by her middle name Matlda like several of the other daughters who had switched to their middle names.

On 12th May 1851 Charlotte Matilda Harris married Charles William Ward at Trinity Church Lambeth. The couple show their residence as 37 Upper Marsh Waterloo which is where Charlotte's parents William and Betsy were living at the time.


The 1861 census shows Charles and Charlotte living at 11 South St, off Hercules Buildings Lambeth. Living with them was Charlotte's parents William and Betsy Harris and their own children.
Charles and Charlotte are recorded as having 5 children. Walter Samuel (1851) Dartford; Clarissa Ann (1853) Dartford; Matilda Jane (1854); Charles John Handried (1859) 11 South St and Mary Ann Eliza (1862) 11 South St.

The 1871 census shows the family living at 9 Heathfield Place Lambeth. Charlotte Matilda Ward died in 1876 aged 46. Her husband Charles William Ward lived to the age of 69 and died in Lambeth in 1898.

Four of Charlotte and Charles Ward's five children were to marry. We can find no further information on their son Charles John Handred Ward.

Walter Samuel Ward married Lydia Isabella Hewson 25th December 1875 at St Johns Waterloo Road Lambeth. They had at least two children Walter Thomas Ward (1877), and Henry John Ward (1880).

Clarissa Ann Ward Married George Howard 1st March 1874 at St Marys Lambeth. They had at least 6 children. Alice Mary Ann (1875), Emma Elizabeth (1878), George Charles (1880), Rosina (1884), Lavinia (1888) and Elsie (1891).

Matilda Jane Ward married Charles Joseph Revell 11th May 1874 at St Pauls Parish Church Southwark, They had at least 2 children, Charles Frederick (1875) and Mildred Matilda (1877).

Mary Ann Eliza Ward married Henry Clark 11th May 1885 at St Pauls Parish Church Southwark.They had at least 6 children; William (1889), Henry (1894), Mary Ann Elizabeth (1895), Margaret (1897), Dorcas (1897) and Thomas (1901).
