...................William Samuel Hollings & Family

William Samuel Hollings married Hannah Eliza Parkes in Islington in 1848. Their first son William Archer Hollings was born in 1850. The 1851 census shows the family livng at 78 Charles Street, St Luke, London. William's occupation is lamp maker and gas fitter. By 1861 the family had moved to 102 Goswell Road Clerkenwell. William and Hannah's second son Francis Alfred Parkes Hollings was born in 1864.

The 1871 census shows the family now living at 275 Goswell Road Clerkenwell. Also living with them was William's widowed sister Mary Ann Bristow and her two daughters Alice and Ellen who had recently returned from living in Hoarwithy in Herefordshire.


By tne time of the 1881 census the Hollings family had moved along Goswell road and were now living at 283 next door to the Lady Owen's Arms public house. Mary Ann Bristow and her daughters had by now moved out.

William and Hannah's son William Archer Hollings married his cousin Sarah Ann Parkes in 1873 and by 1881 were now living at 42 Spencer Street Clerkenwell. They had three children, Florence Hollings who was born in 1874, May Alice Hollings who was born in 1878, and Sarah Ann Hollings who was born in 1881 but died in 1882. Unfortunately William's wife Sarah also died in 1882 aged just 31.

William Archer Hollings married his second Wife Ada (?) in 1886 in Holborn. They had 3 children; Victor William Hollings born 1888, Ada Louisa Hollings born 1893, and Bertram George Hollings born 1894.

The 1891 census records William Samuel Hollings and his wife Hannah now liviing at 16 Sidney Street (now called Wakley Street) Clerkenwell with Florence his grandaughter. William Samuel Hollings died in 1894 and his wife Hannah in 1900. His son Francis Alfred Parkes Hollings had married Jessie Jackson in 1886. They had two children; Viola Jessie Hollings born 1887 and Hilda Frances Hollings bon 1889. The 1891 census records them living Clerkenwell. Francis's occupation being a lithographic artist. By 1901 Francis was a decorator painter, his wife Jessie had died and he was livling with his daughter Viola in Kennington.

William Archer Hollings was in 1891 living at 28 Moreland Street St Lukes London. His wife Ada died aged 34 in 1897. In 1901 the family consisted of William Archer Hollings and his children May, Victor, Ada and Bertram. His two children from his first marriage had now moved from home. Florence Hollings married William James Hinksman in 1896, and May Alice Hollings married in 1907.

William Archer Hollings lived until 1917 and died in West Ham. His daughter Ada Louisa Hollings married James Wallis in 1916. They had three children, Harry (b 1918), William (b 1921) and Donald (b 1924). His son Bertram George Hollings married Lillian E Peacock in 1918 in West Ham. They also had three children; Doris (b 1919), Bertram (b 1921) and Winifred (b 1923).
