.................................The changing names of Albury Street
This small street off Deptford High Street was known originally as Union Street before becoming Creek Road in the 1890's. It finally changed to its present name of Albury Street in 1900.
The maps show the differences in the street between 1868 (top) and 1914 (bottom).Below left is the extract from Booth's Poverty map of his description of the street in 1899. (Booth was the founder of The Salvation Army). The directory listing is also from 1899 when the street was the western end of Creek Road. This shows the variety of inhabitants at the time.
