George and Emily Marry 1871

This Marriage certificate is the oldest original document we've found so far. George and Emily's oldest surviving child was Emily Musgrove. Her daughter Molly has saved this certificate and kindly lent it to us. As can be seen George and Emily's signatures are different writing to the rest of the certificate and are also written with different pens it is dated the same day as the wedding when you get a copy it is dated the day of issue. St Mary's church Lambeth is still there. The wedding was witnessed by James Harris, Emilys' father. Bottom left on the certificate is a Queen Victoria stamp. The Queen was then in middle age aged 51. The Banns below were read out three weeks prior to the wedding. This is a copy from the original from the Church of St Mary's Lambeth. The early photo of the church dates from the 1860s from a series of local views by the photographer William Stradwick
