Census George Aitchison St Pancras
The 1841 census shows George Aitchison, our
George's grandfather living at 5 Hertford Street.It became
5 Princes Street and eventually 102 Whitfield Street. George
Aitchison's
profession
is given as cabinet maker. His sons John and George are
shown as pianoforte maker. Also listed is George's wife Margaret
and their daughter Jessie.
It should be born in mind that in 1841 London
was inhabited as well as rich people hundreds of thousands of
desparately poor people. Queen Victoria had
been on the throne for only four years and was a young woman
of 22 having married Albert the previous year in 1840. However yhe population of London at this time was only 1870127.
